SUMMARY:NIGHT NATURE HIKE AT ROCKPORT PARK
DESCRIPTION:Meet at the west end of the parking lot next to the swimming pool in Rockport Park in Janesville. Join us for a night hike in Janesville’s largest park for a warm summer evening in June. This is the peak time of the year to see bats\, fireflies and glowworms\, smell the night-blooming wildflowers and hear the calls of owls\, frogs\, and toads. This is an excellent program for families with children or for scout groups\, church groups\, etc. If rain threatens\, call the Janesville parks cancellation hotline at 608-373-4380 for weather related cancellations and/or rescheduling. For all of our night hikes\, participants should wear light colored clothing appropriate for the forecasted temperatures and have some form of insect repellent handy\, but no flashlights\, please. Some trails may be damp\, so wear shoes or boots that are OK to get slightly wet and/or muddy. If there is rain on Friday night\, we will try again at the same meeting place and time for Saturday night. Tjhis event is free and open to the public.

DESCRIPTION:BLUEGRASS EXPRESS will be presenting a Bluegrass Gospel Concert at the Gratiot Park in Gratiot\, WI on Saturday June 13th at 7pm. The concert is FREE and everyone is invited to attend. The Evangelical Free Church of Gratiot is sponsoring this event. \nBLUEGRASS EXPRESS was formed in 1980 by the father-son team of Gary and Greg Underwood and has performed extensively ever since\, from Michigan to Mississippi and all points in between. Featuring tight harmony that can only be found in a family band along with superbly proficient instrumentation\, A live performance is certain to delight audiences of all ages. Collectively\, they have over a dozen studio recordings to their credit. In 2024\, the band’s single “DON’T SAY GOODBYE IF YOU LOVE ME” from their “TRIBUTE TO JIM & JESSE” project reached #8 on the Mountain Bluegrass top 12 and #13 on the Hooked on Bluegrass top 50. A new 2026 recording project is in the works with all original songs penned by members of the band. \nSpecial guest ANDY HATFIELD (guitar/banjo/mandolin) will be appearing with the band and is a creative musician and teacher from Peoria\, IL and is well-regarded both as a teacher and player. He plays and teaches both acoustic and electric guitar\, mandolin\, banjo\, and bass. Nationally\, Andy is known for winning three National Championships: The 2011 and the 2017 National Flatpicking Guitar Championship\, and the 2013 National Mandolin Championship. He is one of only four people to win both those contests in the 45+ year history of the Walnut Valley Festival in Winfield\, Kansas\, where the national contests are held each fall. \nNICK DUMAS (mandolin/banjo/guitar) grew up in Brier\, Washington\, and was introduced to bluegrass music at a very young age by his dobro-playing grandfather\, learning to play the fiddle when he was 12 years old. In 2015\, Nick become the new Special Consensus mandolin player and made his Special C recording debut on the 2016 Compass Records band release “Long I Ride\,” which received the 2016 International Bluegrass Music Association (IBMA) Instrumental Recorded Performance of the Year Award for the tune “Fireball.” Nick also appeared on the 2018 Compass Records band release “Rivers and Roads” that won two IBMA awards (one for Album of the Year) and a GRAMMY nomination for Best Bluegrass Album. In late 2019\, Nick released his first ever solo recording called “Story of a Beautiful Life” and decided get off the road with Special C to be part of The Fiddler’s Farm at his home in Sturgeon Bay\, WI. In 2021\, Nick was signed by Nashville\, TN based Skyline Records and in 2022 released the record titled “Details\,” which performed incredibly well on the bluegrass airplay charts\, with one song being nominated for SPBGMA song of the year in 2023. Nick was also nominated for the IBMA Momentum Vocalist of the Year award in 2023. \nJACOB UNDERWOOD (banjo/mandolin/fiddle) first took the stage with the group at the age of three\, won his first fiddle contest at the age of ten\, and became a full-time member of the band at age 11\, playing mandolin and fiddle. Jacob later switched to banjo as his primary instrument and has won numerous contests in banjo\, mandolin and fiddle. In 2016\, Jacob released a solo instrumental CD “The Banjo Files” featuring numerous A list musicians as special guests on the project. He released a “true” solo project “As Time Goes By\,” playing all of the instruments with a bluegrass treatment on songs of the 30’s\, 40’s and 50’s\, and was joined in vocal collaboration by Norway’s “Attitunes” vocal group on two selections. In the spring of 2022\, Jacob’s single “TIS SO SWEET TO TRUST IN JESUS” from his all-gospel CD reached #8 on Bluegrass Today’s Gospel Weekly airplay chart\, and “MY HOPE IS IN THE LORD” reached #4 on the Singin News Gospel chart. \nCo-founder GREG UNDERWOOD (bass/guitar) is the product of a childhood filled with music. By age 12\, he was playing mandolin and singing on stage. Greg received “Most Promising Male Vocalist” and “Most Promising Mandolin” from the Society for the Preservation of Bluegrass Music in America (SPBGMA) early in his career. Greg now handles the bass chores for the group along with lead and harmony vocals. He has written many songs performed by the band. Among his many credits\, Greg sang and performed with Country Music Hall of Famer Charlie Louvin\, and spent two years playing bass and touring with GRAMMY winning artists “The Cox Family.” \nFounding member and band patriarch GARY UNDERWOOD (guitar/fiddle) grew up in the tiny east central Illinois town of Custer Park. One of his earliest musical influences was the fiddle playing neighbor “Fiddy” Crater. Gary developed a great interest in the fiddle at a young age and was hooked from then on. He was the driving force behind the formation of BLUEGRASS EXPRESS back in 1980 and has performed with the band throughout its 46 years. In the early stages of the band\, Gary switched to the guitar to handle a large portion of the vocals. An accomplished song writer\, he is still featured on occasion on the fiddle and spends time repairing and restoring vintage violins.
