DESCRIPTION:3 p.m. concert at the Monroe Arts Center by the Bel Canto Singers\, directed by Allen Redford and accompanied by Christina Parkinson. The Monroe High School Chamber Choir\, directed by Alex Lentz\, will also be featured. \nThe Bel Canto Singers have a long tradition with the Monroe Arts Center\, first performing in the lovely concert hall in 1979. Since then\, Bel Canto has grown from a small group of Monroe friends singing madrigals to an accomplished choir from a large stateline area. At the same time\, the Monroe Arts Center has grown from a fledgling arts venue to a flourishing center of music\, art\, theater and arts education in an expanded\, accessible facility. \nAdmission is $10 at the door. Ages 10 and under enter for free. There are no advance ticket sales.

This commentary frames the program in a larger historical context\, and offers specific details on Guthrie’s songs and his biography. The program also includes two singalong songs. \nThe presenter\, Bucky Halker\, holds a PhD in American history. He is a songwriter\, performer\, and historian with 15 albums\, including Anywhere But Utah: Songs of Joe Hill (2015)\, a musical tribute to martyred labor songwriter Joe Hill (1879-1915)\, and The Ghost of Woody Guthrie (2012)\, an original music tribute to the legendary folksinger.

The production includes well-known songs such as Tomorrow\, It’s the Hard Knock Life\, and Maybe. \nKids Fun & Drama is a Beloit-based youth theater organization dedicated to providing performing arts opportunities for children and teens. Through productions\, camps\, and classes\, KFAD helps young performers build confidence\, creativity\, and teamwork through theater. \nAudiences of all ages are invited to come support local youth performers and enjoy this classic family-friendly musical while celebrating the next generation of performers in our community.

SUMMARY:WILDFLOWER HIKE ON DEVIL'S STAIRCASE TRAIL
DESCRIPTION:Meet at the far north parking lot picnic shelter of Janesville’s Riverside Park. On this hike\, we’ll look for the blooms of Dutchman’s breeches\, hepaticas\, violets\, spring beauty\, wild ginger\, anemones\, and buttercup. Dependent on the yearly variation in bloom time\, there may also be columbine\, trilliums\, and Jack in the Pulpit. This hike showcases one of the best native woodland wildflower displays in Rock county. After an initial steep climb up a staircase\, the trail runs parallel to a steep slope along the Rock River. The trail is narrow and the hiking difficulty is moderate. A hiking stick is recommended for all participants. This event is free and open to the public.
