A Bryan Steil-led bill breezes through the House of Representatives.

Steil’s office says lawmakers passed the Accelerating Home Building Act as part of a larger package of housing-related bills.

The act creates a grant program in the Department of Housing and Urban Development to help municipalities to implement pattern zoning, a process of developing pre-approved housing plans and designs. The idea is to reduce regulatory holdups and design costs and accelerate construction timelines.

Steil says by doing so, housing costs will come down, making it easier for families to be able to purchase a home.

The vote to approve the measure was 390-9.
