A proposal to explore potential consolidation of fire and emergency medical services goes before the town of Beloit Board of Supervisors and the Beloit City Council next week.

Town of Beloit Administrator John Malizio says for years the town of Beloit contracted with the City of Beloit for fire chief services.

The proposed non-binding agreement would establish a structured evaluation process over six months, including a feasibility assessment and staff recommendations.

Under the MOU under consideration by both communities, either party would have the option to back out at any time.

If approved by both governing boards on February 2, staff from both communities would work collaboratively to conduct an operational and financial analysis, with regular updates provided to both governing bodies and the public as the evaluation progresses.

Malizio says the idea of consolidation comes in response to issues that both departments have been having recruiting and retaining staff.
