Federally funded electric vehicle charging stations are coming to the Interstate 43 corridor in Walworth County.
The charging stations will be built with more than $850,000 in federal money from former President Joe Biden’s infrastructure law.
One of the locations is a BP-branded gas station on Highway 11 east of Elkhorn. The other is the Kwik Trip in East Troy. They were among 26 new charging locations announced Monday by the Evers administration.
The news release from Evers says the new funding is coming despite the Trump administration’s efforts to withhold more than $60 million that was coming Wisconsin’s way to build the infrastructure.
A federal judge blocked the Trump administration’s action in June, allowing several EV charging projects to move forward, according to the news release.
Other new charging locations that area motorists might be interested in include Kwik Trip stores in West Allis, Madison and Wisconsin Dells; a BP station off I-90 in Cottage Grove; and the Econo Lodge motel off I-94 in Lake Mills.
The Edgerton Travel Center just north of the Rock-Dane county line previously received funding for EV charging infrastructure.
