The 33-year-old Milwaukee man who police say was the mastermind behind a plot to swindle thousands of dollars from an elderly Beloit man will spend the next five years behind bars.

Jeremiah Tarver of Milwaukee plead guilty in July to impersonating a peace officer in the commission of a crime, theft, possession of methamphetamine, and possession of THC. Additional charges of false imprisonment, burglary, theft, forgery, and obstructing were dismissed but read into the record.

According to the criminal complaint, Tarver first met the victim at a Milwaukee Casino and claimed to be a Milwaukee Police Officer. He was able to convince the victim to withdraw cash from his bank account and let him use his vehicle.

Eventually Tarver pulled 24-year-old Cobbins – who was his lover – into the scheme.

Cobbins plead guilty in June to impersonating a peace officer, theft, obstructing, and possession of methamphetamine. He was sentenced to nine months in jail and four years of probation.
