
Prosecutors say a Beloit woman was high and drunk when she blew a stop sign and crashed into another vehicle, injuring the other driver.
28-year-old Lakwanza Smith is charged in Rock County Court with operating while intoxicated causing injury and operating a motor vehicle while revoked.
According to the criminal complaint, Beloit Police were dispatched to the intersection of Moore Street and Portland Avenue just before 9:00 p.m. on July 16th on the report of an accident with injuries.
Investigation determined that a vehicle was traveling east on Portland when Smith ran a stop sign and struck it.
The other driver had to be transported to the hospital for a concussion.
Smith admitted that she had been driving and that she had consumed alcohol and marijuana.
Smith has two previous OWI convictions from 2022 and 2024.
She’s currently being held in the Rock County Jail on a $2,000 cash bond.
